Additional Card Details

Travelers who prefer booking with Marriott can enjoy valuable Bonvoy program perks with this card. You’ll qualify for automatic Marriott Silver Elite status, which you can turn into Gold Status by spending $35,000 or more each account anniversary year. Each calendar year, you’ll receive 15 Elite Night Credits. And each account anniversary you’ll get a free night award, valid for a one night stay at a Marriott property worth up to 35,000 points per night.

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card comes with some significant perks beyond the Marriott Bonvoy program itself. You’ll get travel protections on trips you book with the card, including baggage delay insurance, lost luggage reimbursement and trip delay reimbursement, as well as purchase protections. This card’s purchase protection benefit applies against damage or theft for purchases made with your credit card for up to 120 days, with a limit of $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.

Should you get the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card?

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card is an excellent option for rewards enthusiasts who want to earn free stays with the Marriott brand.

The 100,000-point welcome bonus is enough to cover 20 nights at Category 1 properties (which start at 5,000 points per night) during off-peak dates, or shorter stays at higher-tier properties.

Even if you don’t travel often, this card’s annual free night award with a redemption max worth 35,000 points is more than enough to cover the $95 annual fee, as long as you stay in a Marriott property at least once per year. For example, you could use your free night award for a night at the AC Hotel Miami Wynwood in August, during peak season for a value of 30,000 points. It’s a Category 4 Marriott property, and the standard nightly rate during that time starts at $259.

This card also gives you a boost toward higher status tiers within the Marriott Bonvoy program. To start, you’ll get automatic Silver Elite status. While Silver status itself doesn’t come with many perks outside of a 10% points bonus and late checkout, securing this tier makes it easier to climb to higher levels of elite status with even more valuable perks and benefits. You also receive 15 Elite Night Credits toward elite status each calendar year; this puts you more than halfway toward reaching Gold Elite status, which requires 25 nights per year.

And depending on how big your spending budget is, you may be able to secure higher status even more easily. The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card offers a pathway to automatic Gold Elite status when you spend $35,000 or more on your credit card within a calendar year.

You may also want to compare this card’s benefits with the more premium Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express® Card. It costs a much higher $495 annually, but if you’re a frequent traveler and Marriott loyalist, the rewards you earn may outweigh the cost. On the other hand, if you don’t always stay with Marriott, or you just want a more versatile travel credit card, consider a similarly-priced general travel rewards option, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

How to Use the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card

When you sign up for the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card, start working toward the the 100,000-point bonus. You’ll have three months from account opening to do spend $3,000, which is equal to about $1,000 per month.

If this isn’t within your normal spending range, you may want to wait and plan your card application around your next vacation booking, especially if you plan to stay with Marriott. You can work toward the welcome bonus and earn another 17x points on your hotel booking, all of which can go toward a future trip. Just remember not to spend more than you can afford to pay off when your statement bill is due. You may save on your vacation, but those savings can quickly be wiped out by any high interest debt you accrue carrying a balance on this card.

It can also pay to strategize when it comes to redeeming your rewards for hotel stays. The Marriott award chart has different redemption rates for off-peak stays, standard dates, and peak travel dates. To make the most of your rewards, consider redeeming your points for stays outside of peak travel times (these vary based on destination). And don’t forget about Marriott’s 5th night free perk — for every five consecutive nights you book using Bonvoy points at the same property, you’ll get one of those nights for free.

You can also redeem Bonvoy points for flights and car rentals, transfer them to frequent flyer airline programs, redeem for experiences through Marriott Bonvoy Moments, shop online, and more, but you’ll get the best redemption value by sticking to award night redemptions with Marriott.
