The IHG Premier Card can be a lucrative credit card. You’ll net 25 IHG Rewards points per dollar spent on purchases at IHG hotels—10 IHG Rewards points per dollar for paying with your credit card, 10 IHG Rewards points per dollar as an IHG loyalty member and another 5 IHG Rewards points per dollar for being a Platinum Elite member. That’s a pretty significant earning rate, and it’s one that could help you rack up a ton of hotel loyalty points if you regularly stay with IHG properties for work or leisure.
Beyond the rewards you’ll earn for paid hotel stays with the brand, you’ll also earn 2 IHG Rewards points per dollar spent at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants and 1 IHG Reward point per dollar on all other purchases. With a value around 0.5 cents per dollar, the IHG Premier Card is not a card on which to place everyday spending. Many other cards offer a higher return rate.
Between May 1 and June 30, 2020, IHG Premier will offer 6 IHG Rewards points per dollar spent on grocery purchases, on up to $1,500 of spending per month.
This includes grocery purchases made in-store or delivered through eligible grocery store delivery services (like Instacart). Warehouse clubs and discount stores are not eligible.
When it comes to cashing in your rewards for hotel stays, it’s important to note that IHG Rewards doesn’t offer an official award chart. With that being said, a free night at an IHG property will set you back between 10,000 to 70,000 points per night, although a few of the highest tier properties cost 100,000 points per night if you can find award availability.
Here’s how much you can expect to pay for each category of hotel, keeping in mind that nothing is guaranteed:

With that in mind, you should also note that this credit card lets you book your 4th night for free with points, meaning you’ll only need to pay for the first three nights when you book four consecutive nights at the same property with points. Many other hotel awards programs offer fifth night free, but fourth night free puts the IHG Premier in a class of its own. This benefit is unlimited and could potentially have huge value if you use it often.
Meanwhile, IHG Rewards also offers a points and cash option that lets you stretch your points further for select destinations and dates.
Other redemption options you can consider include merchandise, gift cards, and digital rewards like ebooks and games. You can also donate points to charity or transfer your IHG Rewards points to frequent flyer programs,…
